What do we mean when we say we our mission is to lead people to be passionate followers of Jesus?
If someone would ask you, “What do you mean when you say, ‘CrossPoint’s mission is to lead people to be passionate followers of Jesus?” What would your answer be? As the saying goes, a picture can be worth more than a thousand words. So, here is our picture of what our mission means according to the Bible.
Seeking Grace: The scripture listed with this reminds us that before we were seeking God, he was seeking us. This is the grace that prepares the way for us to believe and have a relationship with Jesus Christ. This is why we can be FOR everyone, because by doing so we join God in opening the door for people to realize that God loves them just as they are and where they are long before they ever believe in Him.
Saving Grace: At some point, as God seeks us our eyes become open to him. He is real. His love for us is unconditional. Our salvation now and forever is not about our goodness but his grace. Jesus’ death and resurrection saved us from sin and its destruction. He is the forgiver of our sinful habits, the healer of our hurts and the truth who sets us free from the lies that hang us up. Our part is to choose by faith to believe and receive the gift of his saving grace that gives us eternal life.
Sanctifying Grace: Once we have received his saving grace, the Holy Spirit works in us his sanctifying grace. On our part we surrender our lives to him and then God begins to transform us by the renewal of our minds to be more and more free to love God with everything and love our neighbor as ourselves. This is the process through which God’s grace works in us to grow us and goes through us to touch others.
Sharing Grace: The natural result of the first three phases of grace is that we are compelled to join God in sharing the good news of Jesus with others through word and deeds so that those we know who do not yet know Christ might have the same opportunity. We invest in others as people God loves with no strings attached. We share with others our faith story. We show others God’s compassion. We invite others to join us in worship so they might realize that God has been seeking them with his love all long.
FOR: FOR is at the center of it all to remind us that just as the Bible says God is for us, we also should always be FOR others without exception, prejudice or judgment because, after all, we are only here by his seeking, saving, sanctifying and sharing grace! We can never be too loving! In fact, if our love and acceptance is not making other religious people question us like they did Jesus, then we may not be loving enough.
